Both the colleges are the top most colleges of India so you may consider any one of them, however, if you are determined and have that passion to work hard, then definitely take a break for JEE Advanced.

No, with 79 marks being a Delhi student and not having SC/ST category you will not get admission in Thapar University not even in any other college.
So it is advisable to take admission in any private college through direct means.

You can take part in the counselling of Thapar University as your rank is low but counselling is on the basis of general rank that must be less than 1 lakh, so you may take part in the counselling.
