Hi,
Category is divided on the basis of your rank, if you get lower category then you need to pay less, this is basically done because if a student doesn't perform well in the exam.

Salary packages depend on the candidate's skills and also the companies that offer core jobs. The candidates should have some additional skills to get placed easily.

Hello Parth,
Placement is good for both B.Tech and M.Tech.
Coming to the highest package that depends on the company as every year some company revises their salary structure which affect the highest package. During my campus placement, I have got an initial package of Rs. 4.85 lakhs per annum from Escorts Ltd. while for my immediate junior the package is 6.25 lakhs per annum from Escorts Ltd. So, by this which company will give you highest package is a tricky one.
All of the good automotive company come for placement activity like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra and Mahindra, Honda, Volvo Eicher etc.
Highest Package is generally given by TATA Motors and Ashok Leyland which was Rs.9 lakhs per annum in 2013
Some oil companies also come for campus placements and offer good packages.

You need to spend around Rs 2.9 lakhs a years excluding hostels. It is worth doing because VIT provides you a great exposure.
