Talking about the placements of Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras is, almost 100% ratio is seen every year. The average package of Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras is around Rs 9 to Rs 11 Lacs per annum. Many Multinational Companies visit here and offers the good packages to Chemical Engineers. Companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Reliance Industries, PepsiCo, Glenmark, Wipro, Asian Paints, Sun pharma, Dr. Reddy, Zydus Wellness, Cadilla Pharma, Adani Group, HPCL, BPCL, Lodha Group, Samsung, Paytm, Ashok Leyland, Morgan Stanley, Bosch Group, Iffco, etc. Since Chemical Branch is best and evergreen, the placement ratio of chemical branch will also increase in future with good amount of packages by the companies. Talking about the IITs, all IITs placement ratio will also increase or the packages will increase because IITs are the top most Engineering Institute world wide so many companies will take part in campus placement at IITs for quality engineers.

100% Placements for CSE students and 20% of them already have PPOs. Moreover, average range for CSE goes from 8 to 20 LPA and hence, makes it an attraction for various students. The college offers state of art Faculty plus best Infrastructure to maintain quality education. With IIT madras, the internships provided here are very minimal for this specialisation specifically and The Placements for CSE is great but overall facilities and faculty structure is mediocre, not all students get exact CSE opportunities and hence, does not have edge over IIT Kanpur
Also, average package is lower compared with 5-9 LPA on year in year basis with near 85% Placements on campus. For placement highlight, check the following link:

The state-of-the-art facilities (wind tunnels/supercomputing facilities) provide for easy experimenting. The professors are adept at carrying out research and teaching. This is mostly because 80% of them are IIT alumni-US Ph.D. So they have a very good understanding of how IITians should be taught. Having gone through similar experiences, they are always willing to help out. This is a huge advantage. Aerospace and automobile companies contribute to most of the core sector placements in the branch. Rolls Royce, Airbus, GE, Honeywell, TATA Motors, Mercedes Benz RnD, Mahindra, QuEST Global, Mathworks, Lennox, TVS Motors, Eaton, Atkins, and MRF are a few I can name off the top of my head (in no specific order) that came over this year. Aerospace start-ups and consultancies in the country come for placements too. CFD and FEA profiles are well in demand. Flight mechanics, controls, combustion and thermal engineering also come up occasionally. However, IIT-Kanpur is a bit different from most other IITs in terms of academics. Our grading system goes 10, 8, 6, 4, 2. In most other IITs it is something like 10, 9, 8, 7 That automatically means that if the professor doesn't think you deserve A, you get 8 in IITK and 9 in most other IITs. This worsens as the grade drops to C or D. This puts us at a disadvantage. Also, it is said (I can't verify this) that IITK was built more around research and thus they have higher standards and expectations. As a result, academics at IITK are considered tough.

Job in the core industry which is metallurgy, in this case, you have to maintain your CGPA above 7-8 depending upon the company you are shortlisted for and to the extent for my memory serves, I didn't see any core company in metallurgy in my season. Do we really have this industry in India? If you are looking for a job in any high-paying company just like 90% other IITians, you have to sit for several written or online exams where your specialisation doesn't matter at all except in some cases but they don't really constitute significantly. Mantra for getting such jobs is to build your personality and your resume. You have to maintain a decent CGPA as well so that you don't get chucked out because of their HR policies. Non-core company wise placements:-
12 LPA+:
1. Consulting: McKinsey, BCG, Brain, etc.
2. Finance & Credit Card Companies: DB, American Express, Capital One, Credit Suisse, etc.
3. E-Commerce Companies: Flipkart, Snapdeal, etc.
5-10 LPA:
1. Analytics Roles at the Big 4 (PWC, E&Y, Deloitte & KPMG)
2. Consulting Firms like ZS & EXL
3. Other analytics firms and e-commerce startups.
