Types of Scholarship
IITM offers different types of scholarships to the students for financial assistance. The following are some of the important scholarships:
- Merit-cum-Means/ Free Studentship Scholarship: This scholarship is available for 25% of admitted students. To renew the scholarship, students need to score 5 CGPA in the previous semester.
- Notional prize: This scholarship is given to top-ranked economically weaker background students. It is only for 7% admitted students.
- SC/ ST scholarship: It is available for SC ST category students. For renewal, 5 CGPA in the previous semester is compulsory.
- Indian Women's Association at Bonn scholarship: It is a special prize given to one BTech student.
- M Sankaraiah and M Saradha (Mithigiri) Scholarship: This scholarship is specially introduced to encourage top performers in a specific department.

DoMS IIT Madras provides fellowship to research students. The PhD stipend for first two years is INR 37,000 per month. The stipend is INR 42,000 per month for next three-years. The students also receives financial assistance for attending national and international conferences.
