Both IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras are top-tier Engineering institutions in India that follow a rigorous academic curriculum and maintain high academic standards. It's important to note that the grading system for Engineering students is generally standardized across all IITs and follows a strict evaluation process. The grading system ranges from 0 to 10 or 0 to 9, with a minimum passing grade of 5. In addition, IITs follow a relative grading system where grades are assigned based on the performance of the entire class. Although, during the pandemic, IIT Kanpur became more lenient as they followed a no-fail policy in alliance with their already existing grading system.
