If you wish to pursue PhD in Archeology then you should have completed a master's degree. Some colleges allow candidates from all academic backgrounds who have cleared the entrance exam. However, some colleges may allow only those candidates who have studies Archaeology. As per the lastest UGC guidelines, if you have completed a four-year bachelor's degree then you can pursue PhD in any field. You should clear UGC NET exam for that.

Though both History and Archaeology share some similarities, they are different disciplines. Candidates can refer to table below in order to understand difference between History and Archeology -

History

Archeology

It is study of past.

It involves researching about objects found at historical sites.

It provides authentic information.

It provides inferences and possibilities.

It does not provide information about pre-Historical societies.

It tries to explain social, cultural and economic aspects of pre-historic societies through artefacts.

There is not much dependence on research performed in other disciplines.

It depends on researches of other disciplines.

It is based on textual analysis.

It is based on fieldwork and analysis of artefacts.

Note: Info is taken from other sources and can be different.

Hope this helped your query! All the best!

After 10th grade, focus on subjects that will prepare you for your chosen field. These typically include History, Social Sciences, and even Sciences like Biology if you're interested in archaeobiology. The next step is taking a degree in archeology however relating feels like anthropology might also be helpful and might also act as a strong foundation for the next step, followed by  a Masters degree in archeology
