Candidates who have twelve years of school education with minimum of five subjects by the National Open School or from a recognised board are eligible for the BDes at NIFT Chennai. Additionally, as per the Institution's guidelines, candidate's maximum age should be less than 24 years (5 years relaxation in upper age for people from reserved categories). Now candidates are only required to appear for the NIFT entrance exam for BDes admission.

For admission to NIFT Patna BDes, the institute accepts NIFT Entrance exam scores. The registration process typically commences in the month of November. The candidates need to fill out the NIFT application form available on the official NIFT website.

The NIFT entrance exam is conducted in two rounds, the first round is the General Ability Test (GAT) and the second round is the Creative Ability Test (CAT), both components hold 30% and 50% weightage, respectively.
