VIT and SRM are good universities. Have heard good about them. However, I cant tell you much about their programs. I can suggest you a top ranking university - LPU for B Tech in ECE. Electronics and Communication are the two most happening entities of modern technology. This is the reason that ECE graduates find jobs easily in both the public and private sectors. The ECE students can also show the flexibility of choosing software over hardware. Have you tried parul university Gujarat? It is one of few colleges which is taking into account the new education policy which allows student from any background to do B.Tech. If you decide on anything please let me know because I am also thinking of something similar

NIT or IIT don't have B. Tech through the lateral entry you can give exam for entry in 4-year engineering, there are other good colleges like DTU and Thapar which provides lateral entry.
