Bioinformatics is the study of Information Technology in the field of Molecular Biology. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data. Both the fields are good and have importance (as inter-related).
Considering job prospects I would say biotechnology comes first to bioinformatics:
Biotechnology is related to laboratory(both dry and wet lab) works which include from sample extraction, preparation and further processes and the work includes (biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, etc.) whereas Bioinformatics is related to dry laboratory work where you use the biotechnology samples and analyse them using the software.
Both are inter related, and the process would be biotechnological work followed by bioinformatics and also many times certain samples directly used in bioinformatic analysis.

A graduate with an M.Sc. In Bioinformatics can expect to find career choices with research laboratories in academia or industry, pharmaceutical companies, and in other fields as diverse as agriculture or the development of personal care products. There are also opportunities in gene sequencing, genotyping and database design and maintenance. Employers are primarily seeking individuals with a strong background in molecular biology and advanced computational skills. Graduates in Industrial chemistry field may get opportunities in the areas of agrochemical industries, metallurgical industries, petrochemicals industries, pharmaceuticals, plastic industries, polymer industries, etc. Some of the graduates may work in non-scientific areas like government, utilities and research, drink industry, health and medical organizations, and scientific research agencies and organizations.
