Bioinformatics

I studied M.Sc. In Bioinformatics and also did a Ph.D. in applied field of it. I was not good in Mathematics in terms of my previous results or interest. And I was a stranger to the term Programming before joining my M.Sc. But what I had and I think every Bioinformatics student should have:
An Analytical Mind - you are going to an interdisciplinary field of Science - If you are coming from a biology background, like me, you have to accept computation and vice versa. So what subject youve studied exactly does not matter, you need to have an analytical mind to accept things. Quick Learning Ability - Bioinformatics is a subject, which is evolving so fast, that every week, the algorithms are questioned, new databases are added, and hypothesis are proven wrong. When I studied in University, we never heard of the term Data Science or AI, but now in ML and AI are becoming integral part of Bioinformatics. You should be prepared for this kind of change and open of it. Fast learning is the only way to survive. A Programmers Way of Life - I first heard this term at a conference on bio-computing. This does not mean that you have to have an experience in programming languages like python or perl or good old C, but you need to think like one programmer. If you can actually think and act objectively, contextually and step-wise, it is easier for you to learn programming. But, if you are very text oriented and used to memorise things as a whole, programming will be harder for you. This is absolutely my personal view, and someone can challenge each and every point of it.
