Preparing for CAT exam is not an easy thing. You need to concentrate on each section of the exam by practicing some daily activities. For English, you are required to read a lot of stuff and should be able to understand different articles. Quant is full of practice of different topics and mock test is the only way to test your quant skills. Reasoning requires your logic and this can be improved by solving puzzles to improve your logic. The time required totally depends on your dedication.

Hi Ananthu,
There are 4 sections in CAT exam i.e. quantitative aptitude, verbal ability, logical & analytical reasoning and data interpretation. It is always advisable to join a coaching that prepares students to crack CAT exam with high percentile and they also gives you study materials and take exams for better preparation of yours. As you are a 2nd year engineering student and I guess that it is the best time for you to start your preparation in order to score higher percentile in exam. Good luck!

Dear Mausam,
According to me, you should concentrate on your current course i.e. B.Sc because it is very important for you. After that, if you have sufficient time left, you can start preparing for CAT. Plan accordingly. All the best.

Hi,
Apart from CAT, you can give other exams too like NMAT, SNAP, IIFT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, etc. It all depends upon which B-school you want to take admission in.

IIM Calcutta and Birla Institute of Business Studies are the best institutions in Calcutta. IIM Calcutta may have a higher cut of score but this differs every year according to the test result. The percentile score is tricky, that you should have very high individual percentile scores on quantitative, logical reasoning and data interpretation and a reasonably above average score in Verbal ability can get you a call for interview. Maybe the cut-off may vary every year depending on the performance of test population, but normally for IIM Calcutta, you may need between 95 to 98 percentile except for verbal reasoning.
