If you apply before 12th your school counselor must give them a predicted or expected score. You must also take the TOEFL to meet the English language requirements.

It will help if you have some background of IT in 12th, when doing engineering. But which branch you will get in the admission process entirely depends on how you score in CET conducted for admissions to engineering colleges. Better the score, better the chances.
