Fashion designing can be counted amongst the most demanding and exciting career options that one can have. In India, fashion has persisted since ages and is flourishing since long. However, in the modern times, there are plenty of new avenues and newer prospects that have opened up for the youngsters. The field is for those who have an eye for style, fashion, trend, creativity, originality and above all, a knack for promoting their creations. A career in fashion designing cannot be wholly achieved with academics; rather, it needs inner talent and a deep passion for fabric, colors, styling and designing.
There are various fashion courses in India at various levels, such as diploma, certificate course, undergraduate, and postgraduate. The course deals with aspects like garment manufacturing technology, apparel marketing, accessory designing, textile design, development, fashion design and presentation, and many more fields. One can also do specialization in one of the many fields that are provided in fashion designing.
Admission procedure
Admission is strictly though entrance exam conducted by the recognized authority. A test is conducted every year to choose students to enroll in various institutes, colleges and universities. The written test is followed by group discussion and interview. Selected candidates are then called for admission, which they have to take within the prescribed time-limit.
For post-graduation program, graduation is a must in fashion designing. There will be entrance exam held by different colleges. Candidates scoring well can get into a reputed college.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the entrance exam, the candidate has to be 10+2 pass from a recognized board and with 50% aggregate marks. The age of the candidate should be not less than 17 on the mentioned date. The undergraduate course is of four-year duration.
Candidates wishing to pursue post-graduation need to complete their graduation from a recognized university. There may be relaxation in marks as well as age criteria for the reserved classes in some of the institutes or universities. The postgraduate course is about two years.
