Some things in life matters the most. It is good that you have asked out which branch of engineering one should prefer. Here's is my answer to it:
First of all one should be passionate towards engineering for it to be chosen! Anything in life is meaningless if it isn't done from heart.
Here comes the most important part! Usually, people have a false and weird priority of choosing Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics and Civil according to the rank they obtain in a given entrance exam respectively without even looking at the courses under each branch and its match with one's interests which would prove very dangerous as far as the degree outcome is concerned.
So, before choosing any branch, know yourself first and then try to find out the best course available for you that suits your interests completely!
Therefore, take all the time available, assess yourself and decide what suits you and act accordingly.
Ultimately, talent and the ability to express it decides one's future irrespective of the branch one chooses!
P. S: Every branch of engineering has equal scope one way or the other. It is all upon the person to utilise the same.
