UPSC does't need specialisation in a particular subject that you need to graduate in a particular subject. A dedicated 18 months preparation is more then enough. Even engineers taking humanities as optional are equally good as an option for the UPSC exams. So your choice of graduation should be dependent on two parameters
- your area of interest
- a safe career option or a backup if you fail to crack UPSC. You should take a decision keeping the above points in mind. Regards.

Hi Deekshitha!
If you are very serious about your career, I would suggest you to have a backup plan first of all. Because acting is not a sure-shot career. UPSC again is the most difficult exam to crack. Thousands of students apply for the exam and few lucky ones are able to crack. If you are good at time management, you can juggle through both; acting and UPSC. But personally, I would highly recommend you to devote your time in one of these, especially if you're eyeing for UPSC. And do have a concrete back up plan to fall upon.

Hi Shivam, In order to become an IAS Officer, you must apply for CSE exam conducted by the UPSC. You must also crack the exam (preliminary, Mains and interview) in order to get selected for the training. The basic eligibility criteria required to appear for this exam is candidate must possess Graduate Degree from a recognised University/Institution!
So technically, 12th passed students cant appear for this exam right after 12th. After completing 12th, they must complete Graduation first. After completing Graduation programme successfully, they may take a shot and CSE and become an IAS Officer subsequently!
