As soon as you complete your graduation, start preparing for it. It takes a year for the preparation. First
will be prelims then Mains and then personality test. Prelims will be objective type, Mains will be
subjective and personality test means interview.

Hi Ashjad,
Preparing for UPSC(IPS) requires combination of smartness and hard work. Do the right things to gain an edge over your competition:
*Get the right books for Prelims
*Start preparing at least 10 months before
*Solve past year questions to test yourself on regular basis
*Cover the scoring sections early
*Cover the syllabus strategically. Don't go for a "prepare all" approach for prelims
*Balance paper 1 and 2
Books that you can consider-
Indian Politics by Lakshmikanth
Ancient History by D.D.Kausambi

Yes, you can. Subject is not a constraint. In my view, you should opt for political science and geography. These two subjects are easy to qualify.

For IAS preparation subjects like history, public administration, economics, constitution & geography are quite good. I've heard UPES Dehradun has come up with a special IAS oriented BA program for IAS aspirants. Its BA in public policy & administration along with IAS coaching & test preparation. The university has joined hand with an IAS preparation academy for this. Its very unique course but I think could be very effective for your IAS preparations. If you want to pursue physics then you should pursue B.Sc (Hons) in physics instead of B.Tech. After completing your Bachelor's degree in physics you will be eligible for IAS too.

Possibly, Political Science, History, Economics, or Geography. Choose whichever out of these, you find the most comfortable in as these are the most helpful subjects to ace UPSC.
