Hello Aman,
COEP indeed admits students based on lateral admission procedure. However this college is invariably on the top of students preference. As a result, the percentage required is of high order. As you are from open category, you need to score at least 90% in your Diploma.

As far as placements and education are concerned, from my point of view a NIT is far better than a reputed state government college. Its my personal suggestion (as I'm from VNIT), that the environment and facilities at VNIT are too good.

Doing B.Tech From COE, Pune requires clearing MHTCET. You can just check the eligibility criteria of MHTCET and then evaluate the situation and proceed accordingly.

Admissions in COEP is done via MHCET not via JEE mains. There are various criteria for admissions of outside state students so do check their official website for more info.
