Candidates can get admission to the lateral BTech course at HIMT Chennai after completing the eligibility requirements. Check out the eligibility criteria required to get lateral entry in the BTech course:

First year of Mechanical or Electrical Engineering course with an aggregate of 60%

OR

Three-year engineering Diploma in Marine/ Mechanical /Electrical/ Electrical & Electronics,  from the colleges approved by AICTE or the State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks in the last year of the Diploma course.

OR

Four-year Diploma in Shipbuilding Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or the State Board of Technical Education with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the last year of the Diploma course.

OR

First-year training from the Alternate Training Scheme, approved by D.G. Shipping (This will not apply to MERI)

While comparing the MBA programs at IIMS Pune (International Institute of Management Studies) and PIBM Pune (Pune Institute of Business Management), I chose PIBM Pune based on important factors like placement opportunities, industry exposure, specialisations, teaching approach, and return on investment (ROI).

PIBM is known for its practical training through a strong industry interface. It includes regular corporate sessions, live business projects, industry visits, business simulations, and domain-based training. This institute offers a wide range of specialisations, including Business Analytics, FinTech, Project Management, Marketing, Finance, and HR, that match current industry needs.

PIBM also has strong tie-ups with top recruiters across diverse sectors like BFSI, Consulting, IT, IT & ITES, FMCG, etc. Students benefit from structured GD-PI training, aptitude preparation, and regular mentorship, which is a strong support for students to build confidence during placements. The average placement packages are competitive, that is, 6.5 LPA, and the highest package offered at the latest batch is 18 LPA. It also provides tools-based training programs including Ace Analyzer, Bloomberg, NISM, CISI, and more. 

Meanwhile, IIMS Pune might have a good reputation in the management education space but it may not be as extensive in corporate training modules as PIBM. Also, it lacked several key features I was specifically looking for in an MBA programme and that were available at PIBM Pune.

For me, PIBM Pune is a better fit, and for those who are looking for a more skill-based, corporate-driven, practical learning environment with a wider range of specialisations and strong placement training. On the other hand, if your focus is on core specialisations with a cost-effective structure, IIMS Pune might be a good option.

If you're trying to decide between PIBM Pune and MIT-WPU for your MBA, the right choice really depends on what you're looking for throughout your MBA journey.

Let's say your goal is to develop practical, industry-ready skills and hands-on exposure from day one—then PIBM Pune could be a better fit. It puts a lot of focus on corporate training, practical skills building, with activities like live business projects, domain-specific tool training, regular corporate interactions, internships, and mock interviews. The placement support is also very structured, with companies from diverse sectors like Finance, Marketing, Analytics, BFSI, IT & ITES, and IT hiring students for a variety of roles.

While I was planning to pursue an MBA, I did thorough research on various colleges. Among the options, I preferred PIBM, although MIT-WPU was also on my list. However, I wasn't particularly interested in a university-style environment that focuses more on academic depth and a traditional approach to management education, which is what MIT-WPU is known for. But my requirement was on developing practical skills, which is why I found PIBM can be a suitable option. 

Also, when it comes to tool-based learning, PIBM has a broader offering of software and tools relevant to today's job market, which might give you an extra edge during placements.

In short, go for PIBM if you're looking for a corporate-driven, skill-based learning experience. Choose MIT-WPU if you're looking for a well-rounded, academic MBA programme with a priority on values and research.
