Kolkata is among the less expensive metro cities for students, particularly with regards to hostel fees and daily costs. For instance, Jadavpur University has a rent of only INR 25 for a single hostel room per month, while the one-time admission fee is INR 3,000. Almost all government colleges have similar low-cost hostel facilities which is more convenient for students to attend college from outstation.
