Yes, you do have a chance to Get an admission from SASTRA.
I take that you've written your JEE exam. A combined aggregate of both your JEE mark and 12th mark is taken into consideration and the rank list for the counselling is released.
All the best.

It is possible to change but you'll have to redo the whole 2 years again in SASTRA and SASTRA doesn't offer B.Tech in biomedical. SASTRA leads in biotechnology related engineering courses though.

It depends on various factors. The name of NIT is way better than that of SASTRA. But if distance is a factor, SASTRA is a great college any day.
The college doesn't always matter. It's what you learn from it that does.

You don't necessarily need to qualify in the JEE Mains to get admission in SASTRA. Any JEE mark should do.
An aggregate of your 12th and JEE marks 8s taken and a rank list for counselling is released.
Admission is based on that rank list only.
All the best.

There is a provision for the Diploma students to apply for the B.Tech course in SASTRA. Students from SASTRA are given priority. Other students are selected from a separate rank list.

That's a great move. SASTRA leads other private engineering colleges when it comes to biotechnology. It has great labs, state of the art infrastructure and excellent staffs.
Other colleges are Sri Ramchandra Medical College, Loyola College (in Chennai).

So far the placements have been pretty bleak. But with proper guidance from your staffs you'll be job ready and will also get to know people from the industry thereby making it easier for you to get placed. Companies include various laboratories.

SASTRA University is a world class institution on par with all the private institutions in the whole of India. A number of research and academic opportunities are available. It's ranked first in the list of private institutions in Tamil Nadu.
It's a purely merit based institution.

No, you don't have to write an exam to get into SASTRA university if you're coming in via lateral entry. You'll also be studying the 2nd year directly which is an added bonus.
Diploma students from SASTRA are given first priority.

I suggest you take up any course and then slide to ECE after the end of one year.
