Dear Harika,
In India there is M.Tech and likewise in US there is MS. So you need not to worry about the placement and internship provided you have to do your MS from a reputed college.

Civil because being a core branch, you get a wide range of options in future. Civil has the most no. of vacancies in IES (Indian Engineering Services) exam, around 250, as compared to other branches and less competition.
