Yes, a JEE Main All India Rank (AIR) is required to qualify for the merit-based scholarships offered at Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC) for B.Tech students.

The college provides tuition fee waivers based on specific rank brackets in the JEE Main examination. These scholarships are applicable for all four years of the B.Tech program, provided the student maintains the required academic and attendance standards.

AKGEC B.Tech Merit Scholarship Criteria (2026-27)

The scholarship amount is a percentage of the tuition fee, determined by your All India Rank:

AIR in JEE MainScholarship Amount (Tuition Fee Waiver)
1 – 10,000100% Waiver
10,001 – 15,00075% Waiver
15,001 – 20,00050% Waiver

At this score, he should look for specialised or interdisciplinary branches where the OBC cutoff is lower:

  • IIT Jammu / IIT Dharwad: May get core Electrical or Power Electronics in later rounds.

  • IIT BHU (Varanasi): Possible for programs like Electrical Machines and Drives or specialised Chemical/Materials branches (if they accept EEE).

  • IIT Mandi: Possible for Power Electronics & Drives (PED) or Energy Engineering.

  • IIT Gandhinagar / IIT Bhubaneswar: Good chances for interdisciplinary branches like Biomedical Engineering or Earth System Science.

No, the JEE Main exam on April 5, 2026, was not cancelled. However, it was officially rescheduled for certain candidates.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) allowed students to request a change of date because April 5 coincided with Easter Sunday. Following representations from students and religious communities, the Union Government approved a provision for affected candidates to opt for an alternate exam date within the Session 2 window (April 2 to April 9, 2026).

With a 98.35 percentile in JEE Main, you are in a very strong position. This score generally corresponds to an All India Rank (AIR) between 18,000 and 22,000, which opens doors to several prestigious National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

1. Top NIT Options (Other State Quota)

While Computer Science (CSE) at the top 5 NITs (like Trichy or Warangal) might be difficult for the General category, you have excellent chances for CSE in mid-tier NITs and core branches in elite NITs:

  • CSE / IT / AI-DS:

    • NIT Patna

    •  Raipur

    • NIT Hamirpur

    • N

If you are strictly looking for CSE/IT, you should also consider these colleges in Rajasthan where your 88.85 percentile is very safe:

  • MBM Jodhpur: High chance for IT; moderate for CSE.

  • RTU Kota (University Dept.): High chance for CSE/IT.

  • Government Engineering College (GEC), Ajmer/Bikaner: Very high chance for CSE/AI-DS.
