India has a lot of great engineering colleges, but if you're asking in a general sense, the IITs and top NITs are usually seen as the top. Apart from that, a few private institutes also get mentioned a lot, and Thapar University surely ranks among the top private engineering colleges in india because of its placements, coding culture, and overall student ecosystem. So yeah, “top” depends on what you value, but Thapar is definitely up there in the private space.

Honestly, if you're comparing private vs government purely for software engineering, government colleges usually have stronger brand value on the degree, but the real difference comes down to environment and opportunities. A private college like Thapar University is often seen as one of the top private engineering colleges in india because it gives you a strong peer group, active coding culture, and good placement exposure, which matters just as much as brand later on. In the end, a supportive ecosystem where you actually build projects, intern, and network can beat a random government college with a name any day.
