Students studying class 12 chemistry must have clear understanding of the basic knowledge. Students must be aware of physical properties of these compunds. Aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylic acids generally have higher boiling points than hydrocarbons of similar molecular weight due to dipole-dipole interactions and hydrogen bonding (especially in carboxylic acids). Lower members are soluble in water, but solubility decreases with increasing molecular weight.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the NEET 2024 syllabus. As compared to the previous years' syllabus, some of the topics have been removed from each of the three subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There are around nine chapters in Chemistry which have been removed.

In Chemistry, the following chapters or topics have been removed from the units given in the table below.

Units

Topics

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

General Introduction: Important and scope of chemistry.

Structure of Atom

Atomic number, isotopes and isobars, Concept of shells and subshells, dual nature of matter and light.

Some p-Block Elements

Important compounds of silicon and a few uses: silicon tetrachloride, silicones, silicates and zeolites, their uses.

Organic Compounds Containing Nitrogen

Cyanides and Isocyanides- will be mentioned at relevant places.

Environmental Chemistry

Environmental pollution: Air, water and soil pollution, chemical reactions in atmosphere, smogs, major atmospheric pollutants; acid rain ozone and its reactions, effects of depletion of ozone layer, greenhouse effect and global warming-pollution due to industrial wastes; green chemistry as an alternative tool for reducing pollution, strategy for control of environmental pollution.

Polymers

Classification- Natural and synthetic, methods of polymerization (addition and condensation), copolymerization. Some important polymers: natural and synthetic like polyesters, bakelite; rubber, Biodegradable and non-biodegradable polymers.

Chemistry in Everyday Life

Chemicals in medicines- analgesics, tranquilizers, antiseptics, disinfectants, antimicrobials, antifertility drugs, antibiotics, antacids, antihistamines.
• Chemicals in food- preservatives, artificial sweetening agents, elementary idea of antioxidants.
• Cleansing agents- soaps and detergents, cleansing action.

Surface Chemistry

Adsorption-physisorption and chemisorption; factors affecting adsorption of gases on solids,
catalysis homogeneous and heterogeneous, activity and selectivity: enzyme catalysis; colloidal state: distinction between true solutions, colloids and suspensions; lyophilic, lyophobic multimolecular and macromolecular colloids; properties of colloids; Tyndall effect, Brownian movement, electrophoresis, coagulation; emulsions- types of emulsions.

Haloalkanes and Haloarenes

·         Haloalkanes: Nomenclature, nature of C –X bond, physical and chemical properties, mechanism of substitution reactions. Optical rotation.

·         Haloarenes: Nature of C-X bond, substitution reactions (directive influence of halogen for
monosubstituted compounds only).

·         Uses and environmental effects of – dichloromethane, trichloromethane, tetrachloromethane, iodoform, freons, DDT.

5 Ways to Study to Remember Everything for JEE/ NEET
Read multiple times [with learning assessment]
Learning through writing. Revise as many times as possible. Test yourself in an exam stress environment. Mentally prepared for the exam day. Revise regularly
Never wait for the last-minute revision of the syllabus you covered for the exam. Regularly revise what you have studied and check your preparation level by taking tests. If you keep revising the topics and concepts weekly or fortnightly, you can save a lot of time for the final revision.

You are Biology student so first you have to attempt Biology questions after than Chemistry and then Physics because Biology is logical subject, so you are able to do with your knowledge and in Chemistry have some logical or some calculation questions and Physics have lots of calculation questions. - Solve the easy ones first, and if you don't obtain the answer, don't spend too much time on that question; save it for the last try. - Easy First, Difficult Last. - 90 min for biology
- 45 min for chemistry
- 45 min for Physics.
