To get an admission to IIM, you will need to write CAT. Applications usually open in Jul-Aug and exams are held in November. Once the results are out, all the IIMs release the shortlist for interview and GD/WAT. If you do really well in that as well you are offered an admission. And before you ask, yes there are some points for work experience.

As far as the comparison of benefits goes, it is highly subjective but in a broad sense it all depends on your objectives and career goals. You do not necessarily need an MBA for fulfilling your career goals. We should not view MBA as a ticket to a fat pay cheque. That has not helped anyone ever in the long term. We should view it as an academic program that equips us with skills and knowledge to achieve

Dear Ankit,
The chance of placement with full time MBA is definitely better but you need to ensure that you do it from a reputed B-school.
As you have mentioned that you have an experience of 5 years in IT, so if you are satisfied with the company you are in and need a qualification to get promoted to higher management levels within the organization, then you can also consider weekend batches.
But if you want to move to a new organization and are willing to invest 1 year, then you can choose full time MBA.
Hope this helps. You can choose a good B-school in your city and also find out the placement record of their previous batches.
