Not always. German proficiency requirement depends on the specific scholarship and chosen field of study. For English-taught programs and research scholarships, learning German is usually not required.
However, students interested in Humanities and Social Sciences may require German proficiency to conduct research. Other scholarships that ask for German proficiency include:
- DAAD German Language Courses
- Political Foundation Scholarships
- Hans-Bockler-Stiftung
- Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdocs (Humanities/Social Sciences)

No, the tier 1 Indian universities like IIT/NIT and DU do not explicitly give any advantage in the academic evaluation at the HU Berlin. Look at the pointers given below -
- This university operates on a highly standardized and egalitarian evaluation system.
- So, your chances of admission are actually based on the individual curriculum and grades and not on whether your previous degree is from a tier 1 university.

Students are not required to pay a tuition fee at HU Berlin. However, each semester they need to pay a semester fee worth EUR 412.90 (INR 45.3K). The fee covers administrative costs, student union services, and public transport ticket costs at the university.
- Students need to pay the same by mid-Feb for re-registering for the summer semester
- By mid-July for re-registration to the winter semester.

With an overall rank of 600706 and OBC category rank of 224250, admission in top government Institutes like NITs, IIITs, GFTIs will be impossible as they require OBC rank below 50000-70000 even for lower branches. But since you are from UP, you have a high chance of admission through UPTAC (AKTU) State Counselling, which keeps 85% seats for home state candidates.
Below is the table of top JEE Main accepting BTech colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
Top Colleges | Tuition Fee |
|---|---|
INR 2.2 lakh | |
KIET Ambedkar Institute of Technology for Handicapped (AITH), Kanpur | INR 2.2 Lacs – INR 2.7 lakh |

INR 6.8 Lacs – INR 7.6 lakh | |
