NIT stands for National Institute of Technology. These were formerly called Regional Engineering Colleges. Though not as good as IITs, they are also excellent institutes for Engineering. As far as the difference between IIT and NIT in terms of educational programs is concerned, both stand at the same position.

You should go according to your branch of interest. You need to opt for the field in which you are mostly interested because both the colleges are very good. If you don't have any branch issue then go for IIIT-Delhi.
Best of luck.

GATE is required for higher studies like Masters in engineering (M.Tech). For B.Tech in NITs or IIITs, you must get a good rank in JEE Mains and Advanced or you require JEE Mains and Advanced for B.Tech in NITs and IIITs.
Good luck.

Congratulations.
Both Colleges are great, and the decision depends on what do you want afterwards. NIT-Surat has a slight hand over placement. But, honestly Placements depends on student, not on college entirely. Being private, it will cost a little (80k more per annum), but in Bangalore, if you want CSE, come to the Silicon Valley itself. Every Professor, Assistant or Associate
