On Highlights

Q:   Is DTU as good as an IIT?

A:

DTU's BTech in Civil Engineering course has been rated 4.2/5 by 95 Shiksha verified students, while the same course at IIT Delhi has been rated 4.6/5 by 41 students at Shiksha. Also, as per the NIRF 2023 Rankings, Delhi Technological University has been ranked 29 under the 'Engineering' category, however, there are many IITs that are ranked before DTU in the same category. But, despite that, DTU competes against the top-notch NITs and second-phase IITs in streams such as Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing. Hence, it is safe to say that DTU is as good as a second-phase IIT or an NIT.

Q:   Can I get into DTU without giving JEE?

A:

No, candidates cannot get admission to DTU without appearing for JEE Main as the DTU BTech counselling is done through JAC Delhi. The basic criteria for admission to BTech is appearing for JEE Mains. To get into DTU, candidates must score decent marks or at least around 220 or above marks in JEE Mains. The only way to get into DTU without appearing for JEE Main is by taking a lateral entry admission to BTech second year. In order to do this, candidates must complete a Polytechnic course of two years and then appear for an entrance exam (not JEE Main but this exam will give you entry in DTU's second year.

Q:   Is DTU private or government institute?

A:

Delhi Technical University (formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering) has been established under the Government of Delhi in 1963. It is a state university and was affiliated with the University of Delhi from 1952 to 2009. In 2009, the college was given the status of 'University', thus changing its name to Delhi Technological University. DTU is counted amongst the oldest Engineering colleges in India. Being a government college, the fee for various courses is not very high.

Q:   What is the expected JEE Main cutoff 2024?

A:

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the JEE Main 2024 cutoff along with the Session 2 result for admission. As per the schedule, the JEE Main Session 2 result will be declared on Ap 25, 2025. In the meantime, candidates can refer to the table given below to check out the category-wise expected JEE Main cutoff 2024:

Q:   Is DTU worthy to join in 2024, considering the increased seat intake?

A:

Every year, the universities and colleges change their seat intake so that every student gets an equal opportunity to pursue education from the best universities. This does not make DTU any less competitive. In 2023 as well, India Today ranked the college 9 under the ‘Engineering’ category and 8 under the ‘Engineering (Government)’ category. Every year the popularity of this university is rising but the university is not compromising with the quality of education they are offering. Check the below Shiksha student reviews on DTU:

B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering - Batch of 2025
4.4
5Placements4Infrastructure4Faculty4Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Good placements, even in 2023.
Placements: Last year (in 2023-24 session) even in recession from Electronics 50% of the batch was placed with an average package of 17 LPA. The highest package was 64 LPA and the lowest package was 14 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Texas Instruments, Google hardware, Amazon, Nvidia, etc. Around 10% of the batch got internship in on-campus internships drive in companies like Atlassian, Amazon, etc. Top roles that were offered are SDE, System Design Engineer, Design Engineer, etc.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is pretty good. There is a central library which is centrally air conditioned and has Wi-Fi connectivity making the latest publications and journals accessible to all the enrolled students. There are good classrooms with Wi-Fi connectivity and air conditioning. Also, the labs are well-equipped with latest apparatuses and Wi-Fi connectivity. Hostel facilities are great having 24 hour electricity, Wi-Fi and LAN connectivity, etc. Hostel mess food is quite good. The canteen food is good enough as well. There is a hospital within the campus with basic medication available and also there is a facility of 24 hours ambulance in the campus for free. Sports facilities are above average and annually 3-4 sports event happen in the college.
Faculty: The teachers are knowledgeable and qualified for the course. but somehow, they're not able to make the classes more engaging. Maybe because of the old fashioned way of their teaching. The course curriculum is relevant in the modern time but needs to be shifted to more practical based learning. The semester exams are moderate in terms of difficulty. One can achieve 8+ CGPA with a study of one week before the semester exams.
Other: I wanted to explore the area of long range satellite communication that's why I chose this course. The best thing about the course is that it gives a comprehensive knowledge of all the aspects of communication engineering along with the flexibility of choosing courses of your own interest in 3rd and 4th year. I would say practical based and project based learning must be implemented in the course to make it more engaging. The connectivity is very good by metro and DTC buses. Fests are also organised every year majorly in the month of February. Engifest, Yuvaan, Aahvaan, etc. are some of the popular fest. Campus crowd is pretty much approachable. The students can take part in extracurricular activities through different societies and clubs. There are a plenty of scholarships available for the students like from NSP, Delhi Government scholarship, Delhi Higher education authority, Dell scholarship, Kotal Kanya scholarship, ONGC scholarship, DTU alumni scholarship, and DTU also provides scholarships based on the needs of the students.

Best infrastructure and campus life.
Placements: Despite DTU providing the best mechanical course in Asia, they provide good placements too, companies like Maruti Suzuki and Kia are the main recruiters in this college. Almost 75% of students get placed. The highest in mechanical engineering is 64 LPA and the minimum is 10 LPA.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, AC, 3 floors are available in the library, it is one the best libraries among colleges now regarding hostels, first-year hostels are a bit too old, but hostels for 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year are good. Students are best also the girl's hostel is premium. Except for swimming all sports are available in the college, and top-notch badminton courts are available.
Faculty: Teachers will surely help students at every step so their teaching quality is best. For mechanical they will make you industry-ready. Semester exams are bit difficult or mid-range. A total of 33 marks are needed out of 100 per subject. The electrical department of the college is a bit strict but other things are just perfect.
Other: I was getting this branch according to my rank. The teachers are the best thing in my course. Fest, crowd and extracurricular activities are top-notch at DTU.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure and campus of DTU is great but mess and hostel are not too good. Rent of hostel is quite high compared to other government colleges. Decent facilities are provided by the college like Wi-Fi, canteen, sports court etc. There is a big room for improvement required.
Faculty: Faculty and curriculum are a big drawback in this college. The professors are least qualified and don't have knowledge to teach. Semester exams are easy and some days of study before exams can get u good grades. -no, it does not make u industry ready.

Library has approximately 3,00,000 books, journals, research papers. Hostel quality is very bad for first year students, would not recommend anybody. Mess has good food. Canteen is not worth anything. Campus has almost every sports facility.
Faculty: Most of the professors are well qualified and knowledgeable in their fields. The course is quite relevant as per industry. And make students industry ready. Difficulty level of semester exams are above average level. Mid semester exams are usually very easy to score in some subjects.
Other: Due to my JEE Mains Rank, It was the best one I was getting at DTU. Curriculum has improved than before but can be improved more. DTU's main cultural fest is ENGIFEST, along with other fest. There are many Extracurricular activities held in DTU over the academic year.
