The IIIT PPP Act, issued by the Indian Ministry of Education, designated IIIT Kottayam an institute of national importance. Students studying engineering and other subjects can choose from UG, PG, and PhD programme offered at Lottayam IIIT. Features a number of clubs, including the IEEE students, Technical, Cultural, Sports, Social and Literay, Entrepreneurial and Innovation, and others. Numerous students at IIIT Kottayam have been able to develop their leadership abilities due to these clubs. There are seperate hostels available for boys and girls.

The 2025 placements are ongoing. So far, 190 offers have been made. Earlier, a total of 195 offers were made to the 2024 passing-out batch. The majority of offers were made to BTech students during the 2025 and 2024 drives. Admission to IIIT Basara (International Institute of Information Technology, Basar) is based on the candidate's performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and Advanced.
