This range is extremely near to the cut off rank of 6169 for the B.Tech. programme in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering in Round 6. This was under the All India Quota for the general category. You cannot afford to receive a lower score than this unless the candidate falls into a different category or is a different resident. There is a chance of being admitted with this rank, but as the cutoffs vary every round, getting in at a higher rank will undoubtedly boost your chances of being admitted to the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, also known as IITM or IIT Madras, is a public technical and research institution that was founded in 1959 and is recognised as a "Institute of Eminence." It is the third IIT to be founded by the Indian government and is self-governing. IITMR is the first university-based research park in India, and it is situated on the IIT Madras campus in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. For the fourth consecutive year, IIT Madras has maintained its top ranking according to the NIRF Rankings in 2023. In the QS World University Rankings of 2024 and 2023, IIT Madras was placed 285 and 250, respectively, on a global scale.

A minimum of 60% in the graduation aggregate is required for admission to IIT Madras' M.Tech programme. They also need to receive a valid score on the GATE exam in order to qualify. Every year, the deadline may change for a variety of reasons. The highest closing ranks for the M.Tech programme at IIT Madras during the previous three years have been 500–800 for all top specialisations.
