To get admission to the B.S. in Biological Science program at IIT Madras, you need to qualify through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Mains) and JEE (Advanced) exams, not the IISER exam. The general category candidates must have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th board exam with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry/Biology or Biotechnology as the compulsory subjects. For SC-ST category candidates, the minimum requirement is 65% in the 12th board exam.

IIT Madras BSc is a four-year, full-time programme offered at the undergraduate level. Some of the specialisations offered are BS in Medical Sciences and Engineering, BS in Biological Science, BS in Electronic Systems, etc. Apart from the full-time BS programme, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras also offers the five-year, integrated BS plus MS programme. IIT Madras fees for BSc include components, such as tuition fees, hostel fees and one-time fees. There are separate mess charges that students have to pay. The one time fee is INR 7050, the tution fee is around INR 1.2 L to INR 10 L and the hostel fee is around INR 1.74 L.

No, IIT Madras does not have the provision of direct admission. The institute admits students based on valid HSEE entrance exam scores.

The BSc programme offered at IIT Madras has received good reviews from alumni and students in terms of placements, infrastructure and quality of teaching. According to the verified Shiksha Reviews, students have left the following IIT Madras BSc reviews:

  • The exact placement percentage after the fourth year wasn't described, but on average, students received a package of INR 12- INR 15 LPA, with the highest package being INR 80 LPA

IIT Madras JAM Cutoff 2024 has been released for Round 2. The most competitive course was M.Sc in Physics with a Cutoff of 156, for the General AI Category candidates. For the OBC AI category candidates, the Cutoff for M.Sc in Physics stood at 353.

If not eligible for IIT Madras, candidates can opt for IIT Delhi with a linient Cutoff of 157, for the General AI category candidates.

Candidates who get admission to the IIT Madras BSc course are required to pay the fees apart from the tuition fees. The fees structure comprises of various components apart from the tuition fees such as hostel fees and one-time fees. The institute also charges a separate amount for mess charges. Candidates who get admission to the full-time BS programme must pay the one-time fees of INR 7,050 during the time of admission and the hostel and mess charges of INR 1.74 Lakh and INR 1.37 Lakh respectively.

IIT Madras BSc admission is entirely entrance-based for the year 2024 as the institute accepts the rank and scores obtained by candidates in the JEE Main and the IISER Aptitude Test. The IISER Aptitude Test scores are accepted by the institute to offer admission to the dual degree BS plus MS programme.
