With 98.3% in Class 12, you can easily meet the academic board criteria for IITs (65% required for ST). Since clearing JEE Advanced is mandatory for IIT admission, on the basis of JEE Main score of 56.77 percentile, you likely did not cross the ST category qualifying cutoff to appear for JEE Advanced.

So, getting admission to an IIT will not be possible this year.

No, JEE Advanced is mandatory for admission into IIT Madras, just like every other IIT in India. To be eligible for JEE Advanced, you first need to qualify JEE Main and rank among the top candidates nationally. The exam tests deeper conceptual understanding in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Only a limited number of top rankers from JEE Main get a shot at appearing for it.

During BTech counseling at IIT Madras (handled via JoSAA), Freeze means you fully accept your current seat and will not participate in further rounds. Float means you provisionally accept the seat but remain eligible for an automatic upgrade to a higher-preference course across any institute.
