Yes, students enrolled in the MS and MD courses offered by the GIMSR are required to submit a thesis. The topic of the thesis must revolve around their chosen specialisation. Moreover, this project work is to be successfully submitted at least six months before the theory and clinical/practical examination. A candidate shall only be allowed to appear for the theory and practical/clinical examination only after the acceptance of the thesis by the examiners. 

MDS courses are PG degrees in dental surgery, focusing on advanced Dental specialities, while MS is a postgraduate degree in medicine or surgery, covering a variety of medical disciplines and specialities.

GIMSR offers an MS programme that runs for a duration of three years. GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Visakhapatnam MS admissions are facilitated via NEET PG counselling. As per an NEET PG information bulletin, a total of 22.5% of seats are reserved for the admission of candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories.
