Taking an internship in M.Tech programs is now common, but some schools and fields do require them.
When it is Mandatory to Complete an Internship
Among the leading colleges are IITs, NITs and IIITs.
Credit-based internships are included by many IITs and NITs in the thesis/project work or second year of studies.
For example:
Students at IIT Bombay and IIT Madras are expected to take part in research or industrial internships in the summer.
Participating in an internship may be a requirement for some courses in NIT Trichy and NIT Surathkal.

M.Tech programs in India can be accessed in other ways apart from the GATE score. Even though GATE is the commonest route, other ways to enter may be available based on where you want to study. Let's take apart this topic into smaller parts.
1. Obtaining a GATE Score is the main approach you should follow.
Among IITs, NITs, IIITs, central universities and leading private colleges, it is an accepted score.
Standards are required for PSU jobs as well as some scholarships/fellowships offered during M.Tech.

You can still submit an application for M.Tech admission if your final results are not out, but you have to meet certain conditions.
Most of the times, IITs, NITs and different universities follow these rules:
Provisional Admission:
A dean may decide to admit you on a provisional status using your current marks and expecting you to complete your degree by the time you are admitted or by the set deadline.
Students have to submit their results by the deadline.
Most institutes require you to send your final semester mark sheet or provisional degree certificate by a particular deadline which is typically August or September.

There is a mandatory dissertation work or project component in the final semester of the MTech curriculum, where you need to choose a particular topic and submit a detailed research work on the same, which is important to test your analytical aptitude and how you put your academic learning and lab experience to solve a real-world challenge. The dissertation work gives you an opportunity to learn, explore, and experiment.

MTech entrance exams are usually considered challenging and need you to have thorough preparation to get excellent scores and rank to get a seat at a top college and kickstart your MTech academic ride. You can check some important tips to do well in the entrance tests given here:

Well, yes. There are university-level exams conducted every year for admission to MTech courses like SRMJEEE (PG) for admission to SRM Institute of Science and Technology, VITMEE for admission to Vellore Institute of Technology, BITS HD for getting a seat at BITS Pilani, IPU CET for GGSIPU admission, and CUCET for Chandigarh University.
