Hi Parul,
It isn't costly, Medical, education in India, especially in govt colleges is well within the reach of the middle class. In fact, the annual fees of a govt college in Andhra Pradesh is ten thousand rupees only. And then there are "merit" seats in private colleges, for which students shell out 60k to 1.5 lakhs. The expensive seats are those that are sold by private colleges under management quota. They charge donations of half a crore rupees besides the annual fee.

Hi Gunjan,
Getting admission in a good medical or engineering college is a big cause of worry for students while parents get a heart attack looking at the hefty capitation fees. With pressure of 12th standard marks and the money involved, the whole process is quite intimidating for the students. In Indore, the price of an MBBS seat ranges from Rs 30 lakh and 35 lakh while a PG seat stands between Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore. The most preferred branches are radiology, orthopedics, dermatology, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology.

Hi James,
Yes indeed! And at any point of time ,it's never late. Pursuing what one likes is justified because only then one can do justice to the profession ! The productivity and efforts put in are directly proportional to how much a person is interested in a job !

Hi Imran,
Surely MBBS, because quality of education of B.Tech is not even comparable with MBBS. There are lakhs of B.Tech seats available, but very limited number of MBBS seats. That explains everything , i assume. Better degree means which is more in demand. According demand supply theory whose quantity available is less is in more demand and vice versa.

Hi Imran,
Absolutely not. Reservation system is a curse, especially in higher education. The reservation should be based on family income only. This not only frustrates general people but also compromises the quality of education. This also causes division between students. Every logical person understands the side effects but there is nobody to tie the bell in the cat's neck!

Hi Amit,
Financially, it is a very sound bet. Let me tell you a simple example, Gynecology. The last I know, it costed roughly around 1 crore, about a couple of years back.
Now, how do the doctors make the money back? One simple half an hour procedure costs roughly Rs 20,000 for half an hour procedure in a developing city like Indore, when there are no complications involved.
Out of that, 10,000 goes as it is to the doctor's pocket. Even if the doctors handles 12 deliveries/abortions in a day, that amounts to more than 1,20,000 to the doctor for 6 hrs of work. Of course, doctors can do more procedures than that, but they also have to sp

Hi James,
People are now more conscious about their careers nowadays unlike previous generation . Being an engineer will lead you to no where unless you go and study MS or MBA . Without higher studies ,in both salary wise and respect wise your career doesn't amount much if you are an engineer .
MBBS as a career option is pursued by minority population , so there itself your respect in society stands aloof . While coming to social life , MBBS is not like a prison , There too there is a life of love , friendship , anxiety , depression , friends etc. Wherever there are humans , there exists a social life .
