General medicine, alias internal medicine, comes with its set of merits and demerits in choosing an MD.
Merits:

• Scope of Knowledge: An MD in general medicine confers knowledge on a wide variety of medical conditions, diagnostic techniques, and treating options in the different organ systems.
• Versatility: A general medicine MD is trained in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of disorders and diseases; hence, they are versatile doctors in treating a broad spectrum of the needs of patients.
• Foundational to Specialization: An MD in general medicine thus will be a good foundation for one who would later like to specialize in one area of medicine.
• Holistic Approach: Internal medicine is concerned with the 'holistic approach' while undertaking patient care. It encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of several diseases and disorders in the adult patient population.
• Career Opportunities: Students attaining an MD in general medicine have a wide scope of career opportunities, from primary care practice to hospitalists, from academic medicine and research fields to healthcare administration.

Demerits:

• Heavy Workload: Residencies in internal medicine largely go in correlation with heavy work hours and loaded patient caseloads, predisposing residents and practitioners to burnout.
• Broad Scope of Practice: Though the broad scope within Internal Medicine may be viewed as a merit, this is sometimes considered a demerit for those practitioners who get overwhelmed by the depth of knowledge required in various medical conditions.
• Limited Specialization: Though the general medicine course imparts broad-based fundamentals, it lacks the in-depth specialization offered by other medical specialities with a narrower scope.
• Complex Patients: The internal medicine physician tends to deal with complex cases medically, hence intellectually stimulating but emotionally tiring.

It does not appear possible to get direct admission to the MD programme at the College of Ayurved, Bharati Vidyapeeth without qualifying for the AIAPGET (All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test). The nursing programs offered by Bharati Vidyapeeth do not give any information about the College of Ayurved or the MD program. For admission to postgraduate Ayurvedic programs like MD in India, the mandatory qualifying exam is the AIAPGET, arranged by the National Testing Agency. The search results do not mention any alternative admission process or exemption from AIAPGET for the MD programme at the College of Ayurved, Bharati Vidyapeeth. In the absence of specific information about the admission criteria for the MD programme at this college, it is reasonable that qualifying for the AIAPGET is a mandatory requirement, as is the case for MD programs at other Ayurvedic colleges in the country.

MD at Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College (BVMC), Pune, costs differently depending on the area of specialization. The sum required for most MD courses is starting from approximately INR 22.5 lakhs to INR 1.16 crore for the whole program.

This difference in fees occurs because each specialty has different demands and resources.Some of the MD courses offered by BVMC include General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology and Radiology among others. Most popular of these fields such as Dermatology and radiology tend to fall on the higher side of this cost scale.

There are other costs that students have to meet apart from those that go directly to paying tuition fee including housing, books and personal expenses. BVMC has also got services and help meant for managing their finances including scholarship opportunities and financial assistance given only to eligible students.
