BDS is for Bachelor of Dental Surgery, whereas MDS stands for Master of Dental Surgery.
The 5-year undergraduate BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) programme is India's sole recognised professional dental course. Following the BDS programme, students graduate as doctors. Students who want to become dentists at public or private hospitals must take this course. The primary objectives of the BDS are to educate and familiarise students with the dental sciences and procedures. 4 years of classroom instruction and 1 year of required rotational internship make up the 5-year programme.
