Candidates must be 10th pass with a minimum of 55% marks with Mathematics and English as the mainstream subjects. In some states the minimum marks required for the 10thor equivalent exam is 35%. Candidates studying vocational or ITI courses are eligible to get admission in the second year of the course. Candidates have to pass the different state entrance exam to get admission. Eligibility for B.E Lateral Entry:
A candidate must have passed Diploma in Engineering of minimum 3 years duration from a recognised board/University with at least 60% marks in aggregate (55% marks for reserved category). The candidate must also attempt the PULEET Entrance test conducted by Panjab University for Lateral entry admissions.

Almost every college provide admission through lateral entry if you start Diploma just after 10 you will have two Certificate I. e. Diploma and degree both withing a time span of 6 years wheres your friends will end up with degree. Eligibility for Diploma students to get admission through lateral entry.
1. Candidate must have completed 3 year Diploma course with at least 50% from a recognised board
2. Admission will be based on state entrance examination or college own examination.
3. You can take direct admission too. Diploma in mechanical engineering is a 3 year course. You can join Diploma course after your class 10. You will get exposure for what is mechanical engineering, you have to study first year concept of B.Tech mechanical engineering. Many students join Diploma in mechanical engineering after 10th.
