Hello Shubhra Rathi, frankly speaking engineering jobs involve invariably a good amount of field work. But this may not be I am exactly correct statement. This is so since there are many jobs clearly in the research sector or in teaching sector or in design sector where engineer is required work in closed environment and does not have much work in the field. Perhaps it or computers will be one area of engineering there could be almost no field work. My sincere advice to you is not get bogged down buy this concept of whether mechanical engineers will have more field work or not. These days girls have conquered almost all the fields including becoming fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force. Best wishes to you.
