You can take admission in Diploma in engineering based on your 10th class results. On completion of Diploma in engineering, you are eligible to seek lateral entry admission in B.Tech second year.

B.Tech in mechanical engineering is an evergreen branch of engineering whose job prospects have to remain steady for last six decades because Mechanical engineers are required by all types of industries. Job opportunities for mechanical engineers is far higher in comparison to B.Pharma.

You are eligible to do AME courses and seek DGCA aircraft maintenance engineering license. You are also eligible to apply and join Indian Air Force in Aeronautical Engineering Mechanical branch as a technical officer. IAF will train you as a maintenance engineer.

I don't see any reason why it should be a bad idea to do so. If you have any notions, in fact, please share. Otherwise, mechanical engineers are in demand in Australia so if you study in a good university and also perform well academically chances are good.
