Originally, there were only three basic branches of civil, mechanical & electrical engineering. Over a period of time due to technological advances, many sub branches in all these three were developed which in turn have become full fledged branches.

Mechanical engineering is an evergreen branch. It will always be required in future also. This branch is available in every college. But beware. Try to take admission only in reputed college since placements are good.

Mechanical engineering is the heart of automobiles. You can pursue your PG in design, automobile or any such similar topics. But beware, original research is not much in Indian companies. Germany is best for this.

You can pursue M.Tech. You have chances to work with PSUs. There is a good scope in the field of research/ Ph.D.

Even though mechanical engineering appears to be the first choice. The total number of students, who graduated in mechanical engineering is good, while only handful passes out as aeronautical engineers. In India, a large number of companies will require this specialization. Hence, if opportunities appear to be a bit less at the moment, future holds a great potential for this discipline in India.

Yes, its a good option but it will be better if you do your 12th and then B.Tech engineering because in many courses. They ask for 12th as an eligibility criteria.
