No, NITs do not provide lateral entry admission .You can take admission in other good Colleges in Maharashtra, like Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute.

IIT-DHANBAD (INDIAN SCHOOL OF MINING) is the best institute for mining engineering in India. Then there are NIT Rourkela, Birsa institute of technology, Dhanbad . These are some of the top colleges for mining engineering.

It would depend on what you further aspire. You can take higher studies like M.Tech in various fields or branches in petroleum, or take up management courses like full-time MBA or executive MBA or so.

Hello Vivek,
Actually all three are unique in their own way. Mechanical has applications in almost every field. Mining too is very important. But my vote is for Automobile. It's going to witness disrupting changes in coming years.
