According to the NET exam guidelines, there is no restriction on a number of attempts. But if you want to apply for the UGC NET JRF exam then your age must not exceed 30 years. Till that, you can apply as many time as you want. But if you appear for Assistant Professor then there in no age limit criteria. The UGC NET and CSIR NET exams are conducted for the selection of lecturer in university, to pursue the PhD and for junior research fellowship. The CSIR NET Exam is conducted for the science stream candidates while the UGC NET exam is conducted for the other stream candidates. The candidates are allowed to apply for the subject of their post-graduation subject and its related subjects only.
CSIR NET Exam is conducted for the earth science, physical science, chemical science, mathematical science and life science as you have completed M.Sc in zoology you may apply for the CSIR NET life science or other related subject. Fo

NET is for the lifetime and you can give NET exam any number of times but if you wish to take NET JRF exam i.e. for fellowship then you can take it upto 32 year of age (for female candidates only), but for lectureship, you can give it any number of times.

Hi, To be a professor in India, firstly you have to have Masters in your subject, then give an exam of NET. After passing this exam, you can go for a PhD, then you can be a professor in any government or private college.

As per the UGC Norms, to become a lecturer at the university or colleges one must have the post-graduation and NET qualification certificate. The UGC NET is conducted for the determination of the candidates for the assistant professor at the university and JRF awards in research. If you want to be a lecturer, you need to qualify the NET examination. Although you can apply for the teaching in the high school or Diploma colleges.
