You will have to give entrance exam from CSIR UGC NET and not NTA UGC NET, as mathematical sciences come under CSIR also you can get detailed information from csirhrdg. Res. In site. Good luck.

NET exam is conducted by UGC two times in a year. The exam is conducted to apply for lecturership in your field. It consists of two levels from two levels I mean there are two cut off scores given, one is for the eligibility of lecturership and second for eligibility for JRF and once you clear JRF then you are eligible to apply for fellowship that is you can pursue PH.D in which field you gave your NET exam. You are eligible for this once you complete your post graduation. You can get detailed information from UGC NET site.
Good luck.

Yes, an engineering graduate as well as post graduate student can appear for the NET examination that is now being conducted by NTA on behalf of UGC. There are of course other criteria like minimum marks scored in the graduation or the post graduation level as well as the age of the candidates. I am attaching a link that will give you all the required information including various dates and also the registration process for appearing in this examination. https://www-shiksha.com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.shiksha.com/exams/amp/ugc-net?amp_js_v=a2&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQCCAE=#aoh=15504853313437&csi=1&referrer=http
