NIT Patna invites applications through online mode. Candidates need to fill the application form by visiting the official website. The admission to few of the courses is entrance-based while merit is considered for rest of the courses. The entrance exam accepted are JEE Main Paper 2/ JEE Main/ GATE.

NIT Patna provides various scholarships for meritorious unreserved category students and reserved category students. There is a total of 34 scholarships of range INR 2,400 - INR 31,65,600. These scholarships are authorized by Minority Commission, Ranchi, ST & SC Development Dept. Orissa, Indian Oil, New Delhi, etc.

The National Institute of Technology provides modern amenities with state-of-the-art infrastructure to its students. The college offers various facilities which include Computer Centre, IT Service Unit, Central Library, Medical Facilities, Sports Facilities, SAC, Laboratories, Banking, Security, Women Cell, etc. Also, the college provides hostel facilities both for boys and girls.
