For mining branch, the on-campus placements are very low, it's less than 30% and even low for the batches I saw. None of my friends from Mining department got placed in the campus and many of them have pointer 8.5+. Later, they got jobs through off-campus placements, that's a different story.

Firstly congratulations to you. It is all about your interest. But, if you think about the placements, then NIT-Nagpur is quite better than NIT-Suratkal.

B.Tech in CSE will give you more exposure towards software as well as hardware of computers. And, IT will only focuses on software. So, recruiters will mostly hire students from CSE over IT. So, I will suggest you to opt for B.Tech in CSE at NIT-Surathykal. All the best.
