The GATE paper code for metallurgical engineering is MT. The eligible two-paper combination for metallurgical engineering is Engineering Sciences (XE). Candidates who want to opt for the MT paper must check the paper code carefully before applying. To apply for secondary paper, candidate must select from the drop-down menu available in the application form.

Employment of graduates in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering depends greatly on the institutions. Average packages in the top IITs such as BHU, Indore and NIT Tiruchirappalli are INR 13 LPA to INR 18 LPA with the highest being INR 36 LPA to INR 51 LPA. Raipur, Jamshedpur, Durgapur institutes are NITs with an average pay scale in the range of 7 LPA to 9 LPA. On an average, the salary range of B.tech Metallurgical and Materials engineering can be as high as 7 to 19 LPA in the top engineering colleges, and usually the placement percentile is above 70-80.

The time for Metallurgical Engineering courses depends on the college. Each institution follows certain admission guidelines for giving admission. In general, it may easily take up to a few months for you to get the final seat at a college.
The admission process includes entrance exams, filling out the college applications, exam result announcement, cutoff lists, college counselling, seat allotment, course fee payment, and admission confirmation from your end. So, you need to stay patient during the entire process.

For studying Metallurgical Engg. courses, you should begin by going through the eligibility criteria for the course. For UG courses, you should get at least 50 to 60% marks in Class 12 in the PCM subjects. For PG courses, you should have at least 55% marks in graduation. You also need to give relevant entrance exams and score excellent marks in the same.
The next step is to fill out the college application forms before the last date. After the exam results are out, you must apply for the college counselling process where you'll be given a seat according to your rank and marks in the entrance test.

For a diploma in Metallurgical Engg., you should get at least 50% marks in Class 10 board exams with Science and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. For B Tech Metallurgical Engineering, you should get at least 50 to 60% marks in the PCM subjects in Class 12. Some colleges like the IITs ask for 75% marks in Class 12 board exams to be eligible for admission.
For M Tech Metallurgical Engg., you should have at least 55% marks in your UG degree. You can also opt for a PhD degree where you should have at least 55% marks in post graduation.
