The Candidates enrolled in BTech course at NITK should withdraw their admission on or after 17 Aug 2026, 05:00 PM might be eligible for refund of only the caution deposit paid to the Institute. They shall not be eligible for refund of any other fee. Candidates who leave the course after joining shall not be eligible for any refund. Also the candidates should report to the NITK campus on the dates sheduled via DASA counselling, failure to do so would result in eligibility cancellation to request fee refund.

For students with a good JEE Main rank, the answer is yes. NIT Surathkal is the only NIT in Karnataka, ranks in India's list of top 20 engineering institutes according to NIRF 2025. It has a beautiful campus spread over 295 acres on the Arabian Sea with a good placement record from corporates like Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Nvidia. Admission is only through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling, so a competitive rank in JEE is a must to get admission in this institute.

No, a gap year after Class 12 usually does not have any impact on NIT Surathkal admission chances. Most students take a year to prepare for the entrance exams, such as JEE Main. Some students take a year's break to explore and learn more. However, students must meet the JEE Mains eligibility and submit valid score only. Any previously taken test will not be considered.

If you are seeking admission in NIT Surathkal MTech, then GATE is mandatory. Students applying for non-MTech programmes do not need to appear for GATE. For M.Tech however, GATE followed by the centralised counselling is mandatory.

To get in top BTech branches, such as CSE at NIT Surathkal, students need to get at least 4000 or lower rank. Students from the general category must aim to get 3000-3500 rank to have better chance of getting CSE admission. For lower branches, a JEE rank around 9000 - 10000 may get them a seat.
