Hostel discipline is maintained in IITs and NITs by hostel deans, wardens and SP (final year student) and JP (third-year student).

You can get NIT but of a very lower rank. The more you compromise with the college rank, the better your stream will be and vice-versa. Some recommendations are NIT-Silchar, Manipur, Pondicherry, etc.

If your location is your priority, I would suggest google some of the good universities which accepts JEE Mains marks. Though, moving out of your location, you can get any NIT accepts top 4 or 5. Some better suggestions are BIT-Mesra, NIT-Bhopal, NIT-Durgapur, NIT-Kurukshetra, NIT-Raipur.

Dear Tilak,
With these marks, it will get somewhat difficult for you to get some good government college like NIT. Instead of settling down for some mediocre government college, it would be better if you try for some good private university. Many reputed private universities are offering B.Tech degree with various specializations. They have their different criteria for admissions. Some offer admission on basis of JEE scores, some offer admission on basis of their own tests and some offer admission on the basis of both. Hello Dr Gaur,
I can appreciate your angst. But Shreenagar NIT has a very long background. In fact, the faculty in even the recently established NITs is also good. Hence my sincere advise to you would be to ignore location but gauge the fascination of your son. Whether it's for CSE or Mech and then decide. Incidentally, both these branches have good potential.

Your rank is too high to get a seat in a college. Your chances of getting the college are very little. I suggest you to try in private colleges or drop a year for the preparation of JEE Mains further.
