The admission into NITs for undergraduate engineering programs is based on your ranks in JEE main examination. As NIT K, Surathkal is one of the top NITs, you need to have a score of at least above 250 to get a seat.

The following are the top NITs based on the NIRF rankings 2017:
1) NIT-Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu
2) NIT-Rourkela, Odisha
3) NIT-Surathkal, Karnataka
4) NIT-Warangal, Telangana
5) Motilal Nehru NIT, Uttar Pradesh
6) Visvesvaraya NIT, Maharashtra

Why aeronautical engineering? It's tough to get placement in this branch for core competencies jobs. IIT-Mumbai is the best. For NIT, unfortunately, intercomparison from independent agencies is not available and hence difficult to decide a top NIT.

I feel CSE is offered in all of the NIT's. Of course they have to keep up with student demand.

In 2016, opening rank was 4605 and closing rank around was 11151. Score should be more than 220.
